The Front Range Energy Career Expo and Forum (Expo) is designed as an educational event for high school students in the Denver Metro area to bring college representatives, energy companies, and students together in one location, to present information about college options and career opportunities to the future generation of leaders. This year’s event will be co-hosted by High Plains Communications, LLC and Red Rocks Community College.
While students have many opportunities to go to college fairs outside of school hours, this event is unique in providing a presentation of a range of post-high school options to students in a full day, from both college and company representatives. Providing students with options for a career in or around the energy sector – be it in traditional oil and gas activities, wind or solar power, coal, electricity generation, the financial sector, or the regulation and enforcement of environmental laws – is a vital way to ensure they have access to good paying jobs for the future.
The Expo is designed as a one day field trip for students, beginning mid-morning and ending around 2:00 pm. There will be several panel discussions covering college and career options, keynote addresses on different energy topics, and hands-on workshops, as well as tours of the wind and solar programs onsite at Red Rocks. Students will also have time to explore the various college and corporate booths to ask questions and get information. A bar-b-q lunch will be provided for all attendees, and we will have separate break-out sessions for teachers and counselors.
